Kāpiti Boomerang Bags

We are taking a short break from sewing bags in August and will not have a Sewing Bee!!!

By getting involved with Boomerang Bags, you are participating in a national movement that celebrates a local grassroots initiative, community building and sustainability.

Boomerang Bag makers take second-hand fabric and up-cycles it into reusable bags to help eliminate the plastic bag! We run sewing bees where anyone can come along, learn how to make a bag and lend a helping hand.  If you are unable to attend a sewing bee, we will be able to provide you with some cut out bags to sew at home.

The bags are then sold at local stockists at a minimal price. All proceeds go back into creating more bags. It's a self-sustaining cycle of goodness for the environment!!!

To date, the Boomerang Bag initiative has made 199,603 bags globally - that's equal to 43.9 million plastic bags replaced or 59,880 kilograms of waste diverted from landfills!

Join our facebook group for up-to-date news and information.

Our current stockists are KYStore (Ngahina Street), Glam Jams (Paraparaumu Farmers Market - Maclean Park), and of course at the Kāpiti Impact Hub where you can purchase your very own Boomerang Bag!

You can drop any equipment donations such as fabric, needles, thread, screen printers, ink, sewing scissors, machines and overlockers down to the Kāpiti Impact Hub Monday - Friday 9.30am - 5pm.

The Kāpiti Boomerang Bags Initiative is proudly managed by the Kāpiti Community Connect.
